A chord is a line segment that joins two pints on a curve.  In geometry, a chord is often used to describe a line segment joining two endpoints that lie on a circle.  The circle to the right contains chord AB.  If this circle was a pizza pie, you could cut off a piece of pizza along chord AB.  By cutting along chord AB, you are cutting off a segment of pizza that includes this chord.

Trigonometry finds a perfect partner in modern architecture. The beautifully curved surfaces in steel, stone and glass would be impossible if not for the immense potential of this science. So how does this work actually. In fact the flat panels and straight planes in the building are but at an angle to one another and the illusion is that of a curved surface.

Basically, the converse states that whenever the sum of the squares of two sides equal to the square of the third side of the triangle, the triangle is a right triangle.  You can use this in real life in a few ways.  If you need to reach a roof with a ladder and you have it slanted too far, you’ll never reach the top.

There are lots of reasons you would need to identify a parallelogram in life.  There are things like when you’re building a house you need to know that each side is equal so that you buy the right amount of siding or brick.  There are  smaller things like picture frames that you need to know if tey are parallel in case you are making a collage or something.   Doors are also parallel so you need to make sure that the door frame is also parallel so that the door will fit properly.

The triangle inequality theorem states that in a triangle, you can pick any two sides’ measures, and when you add them together, the sum will be greater than the measure of the third side. This theorem can be a great importance in construction working. If a construction worker is trying to construct something with a triangle shape, and wants to know if the three measures will make a triangle, then the worker can use the triangle inequality theorem to add the measures together, and see if they will work.  For example, if you had a measurement of 3, 10, and 8 then add them together, 13>8, 18>3, and 11>10.  Therefore, the three measurements can make a triangle.

It is important to know that figures are similar becase if you know they are similar but not exacly the same you can figure out the scale factor instead on completely re-measuring or trying to copy something exactly. Also you can use siimilar figures like on a map they are not life sized but they are in the same exact place. The states on a map of the untied states are exactly the same in the same place but just smaller.

There are many professions that use the principles of geometric arithemtic.  A common job to employ the use of geometry and arithmetic is the building trade.  A builder must be able to measure areas, and understand how to read measurements.  Geometric arithmetic is also used in manyother fields.  For instance geometry and arithemtic is used in computer graphics, computer aided designs, robotics, medical imaging, structural engineering and many more.

Mid-segment of a triangle———–You would use a mid-segment of a triangle if you were a architect and needing to design a house. If you happened to mess up with the mid-segment of a triangle the house could collapse. It could also make the walls collapse because the mid-segment would not be connecting both sides together, so the walls would have no support, this is why you would us the mid-segment of a triangle if you where a architect, there is a lot more jobs that also use this.

Firemen, construction workers, and other workers often rely on the use of ladders in their line of work. They make use of the Pythagorean Theorem in various situations. For example, the height to a second story window may be 25 feet, and a window cleaner may need to put the ladder ten feet away from the house in order to avoid the bushes or flowers. How long of a ladder does the window cleaner need in order to achieve this task? (25)^2 + (10)^2 = c^2, or the length of ladder needed. 625 + 100 = 725. The square root of 725 is approximately 27, so the window cleaner would need a ladder 27 feet long.

You can use points of concurrency in triangles for many jobs.  One job is archaeology.  An archaeologist’s job has a lot to do with culture, and the way people used to live.  Archaeologists dig up ancient artifacts, many of which are broken.  To piece these back together perfectly, they can use points of concurrency.  When they use points of concurrency, they find the centers, (centroid, orthocenter, etc.) take each piece, and try to figure out exactly where it belongs in the broken object.  This is just one of the many different jobs that you can use with points of concurrency.
